I teach mathematics because I love the subject. I founded MathBridge because I am fascinated by how students come to understand it.
Teaching mathematics, alongside years of tutoring high school and university level mathematics, has brought me close to hundreds of students. Over time, I came to see that success in mathematics depends on far more than mastering procedures. Students flourish when they learn to read closely, think independently and communicate their reasoning with confidence.
My academic life has been shaped by two disciplines. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Mathematical Statistics, earned in South Africa, and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing, completed in the United States with distinction as a Fulbright Scholar. Although these fields are often treated as separate, I have always experienced them as closely connected. Both ask me to interpret closely, express ideas clearly and intentionally pursue understanding.
MathBridge grew from that intersection, and now brings the two together through mathematics.
The best lessons end with a student needing me a little less. In time, I hope they will not need me at all.
